Pursuant to the Ionizing Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Act ZVISJV-1 (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 76/17) and the Rules on Radioactivity Monitoring (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia 27/18), the level of  radioactivity in the environment is monitored by representative sampling and measurements of selected samples using adequate analytical techniques.

The purpose of the ERM in the Living Environment in the Republic of Slovenia is to ensure the continuous control of radioactivity in the environment in the Republic of Slovenia.

The ERM program, which is the responsibility of the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning, includes the control of radioactivity in air, precipitation, surface water, soil and external radiation.
