Presentation of the SQORPION Project at the National EDF Info Day

The Slovenian Business & Research Association from Brussels (SBRA), in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence (MORS), organized a national EDF Info Day, where the current European Defence Fund call was presented in detail. As a successful example of an ongoing project, the Jožef Stefan Institute and its role in the SQORPION project, led by our colleague Žiga Brenčič from our department, were presented.

The aim of the project is to develop a positioning, navigation, and timing system based on a solid-state spin-based quantum system-on-a-chip approach. The sensitivity of the quantum gyroscope to magnetic fields enables the detection of magnetic anomalies and navigation based on the Earth's crustal magnetic field, which will support positioning of systems in environments without access to global navigation satellite systems.
