Official Opening of the New Accelerator

Since October 2025, a major upgrade has been underway at Department F2 - the installation of a state-of-the-art tandem ion accelerator with an accelerating voltage of 3 MV. The €2.2 million investment, carried out in cooperation with the University of Ljubljana, the National Institute of Chemistry, and the University of Nova Gorica, has been supported by the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency.

THE CEREMONIAL OPENING OF THE NEW ACCELERATOR will take place on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 14:00 in the main lecture hall of the Nuclear Technology Education Centre (ICJT), Jožef Stefan Institute Reactor Centre, Brinje 40, Dol pri Ljubljani.

Opening addresses will be delivered by:

Prof. Dr. Leon Cizelj, Director of the Jožef Stefan Institute
Dr. Jure Gašparič, State Secretary at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation
Prof. Dr. Matjaž Mikoš, President of the Slovenian Academy of Engineering
Prof. Dr. Primož Pelicon, Head of the Microanalytical Centre, Jožef Stefan Institute

The formal part of the program will be followed at 15:00 by the official start-up of the new accelerator and a guided tour of the laboratory.

Presentation of the SQORPION Project at the National EDF Info Day

The Slovenian Business & Research Association from Brussels (SBRA), in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence (MORS), organized a national EDF Info Day, where the current European Defence Fund call was presented in detail. As a successful example of an ongoing project, the Jožef Stefan Institute and its role in the SQORPION project were presented.

Invitation to Visit the New Accelerator as Part of the Jožef Stefan Institute Open Days

On Saturday, March 28, 2026, the general public is warmly invited to visit the new ion accelerator. The accelerator is the central part of the Microanalytical Centre, located within the Reactor Centre Podgorica complex at Brinje 40, Dol pri Ljubljani.
