The tests show exceptional stability

Testing of the individual accelerator components is continuing successfully, a representative of the manufacturer is with us these days. By the end of this week, the “handover” of accelerator operation to our team is expected, followed by a few routine tests and fine alignment of the beam lines. The ripple of the high-voltage is currently being measured (it must remain below 40 V at a voltage of 3 MV). Otherwise, all components are operating as expected, and stability during test operation is excellent. Most of the beam lines have already been aligned; tests are currently being carried out with a proton beam and with a silicon ion beam. All three ion sources have also been successfully tested. In the coming weeks, operation in a “prototype” mode is expected, followed by the first regular measurements. The official opening of the new accelerator is planned for the end of March during the Jožef Stefan Days.
