Testing of the new accelerator with a beam

This week, a variety of tests of the new accelerator are being carried out under different operating conditions. The testing is performed using a beam of silicon ions and a proton beam; the beam is being optimized, and different values of the accelerating voltage are being used. The operation of the switching magnet, which allows the operator to select one of the beamlines, is also being thoroughly tested. This requires very precise alignment of the beam and the geometry of the selected beamline. The tests are closely monitored by the Radiation Protection Service (SVPIS), which measures gamma radiation intensity and neutron radiation.
