Virtual Seminar at the Accelerator
Dr. Sabina Markelj from Jožef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia, will give a virtual seminar where she will describe the future thermonuclear devices such as DEMO displacement damage by 14 MeV fusion neutrons will be created in the plasma-facing materials while they are exposed to high fluxes of ions and neutrals of hydrogen isotopes (HIs) at elevated temperatures. In the context of heavy-ion or neutron irradiation, displacement damage refers to displacement of lattice atoms from their equilibrium position in the crystal lattice and subsequent creation of lattice defects such as vacancies, self-interstitial atoms, vacancy clusters, voids and dislocation lines/loops. These lattice defects act as trapping sites for HIs with high de-trapping energy as compared to the energy of HI diffusion between solute interstitial sites.
The lecture is organized by the Centre for Micro Analysis of Materials (CMAM) at Universidad Autonoma de Madrid. Please find the information about the seminar here, including the link to MS Teams Platform.
The seminar will take place on Wednesday, 22th of September, 2021.
Electron Screening @ IJS
Electron screening is very important in nuclear astrophysics. A review of our research on electron screening effect and our newest experimental results will be presented by our colleague Dr Aleksandra Cvetinović.
Results of the public tender for co-financing of ARRS research projects for 2021
On 24 September 2021, the Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS) published the results of this year's public tender for research projects. The staff of the F2 section were extremely successful.
European Metrology Network for Radiation Protection gets the green light
Ensuring radiation protection together in Europe – EURAMET (European Association of National Metrology Institutes) started a new European Metrology Network. We are a part of the network, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed last week.
