Article about TissueMaps on EU CORDIS portal

The TissueMaps project was selected for publication in "Results in Brief" section on exclusive European Commission's CORDIS (Community Research and Development Information Service) portal. The project was launched in recognition of the need for better diagnostic tools, to help identify which prosthesis component is causing the failure, and to what extent. The particle-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) was applied, a cutting-edge microscopy technique to tissue samples obtained during surgery after a prosthesis failure. PIXE enables us to "see" things that we cannot see with optical microscopy. The project is led by Dr Esther Punzón-Quijorna, Prof Dr Primož Pelicon and Dr Samo K. Fokter from UKC Maribor, the measurements are being performed at our Microanalytical centre. This research was undertaken with the support of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme.
