An Article in the Prestigious Nature Journal
Researchers from our department, Dr. Jelena Vesić, Dr. Aleksandra Cvetinović, Dr. Tilen Brecelj, and Dr. Isabela Tišma, together with colleagues working at the European research center for ions and antiprotons, FAIR, have published a groundbreaking article in the prestigious journal Nature. In the article titled "An asymmetric fission island driven by shell effects in light fragments", they presented measurements of the charge distribution of fission fragments for 100 exotic fission systems, 75 of which had never been measured before. During the experiment, they observed unexpected asymmetric fissions in exotic neutron-deficient nuclei.
Dr. Jelena Vesić, the national coordinator for the FAIR center, stated:
"Slovenia's membership in FAIR is of exceptional importance for Slovenian scientists. The publication in Nature is certainly proof of the scientific excellence of the FAIR phase and at the same time a strong indication that top scientific achievements are yet to come. We eagerly await the opening of the FAIR center and the new opportunities it promises."
