PRIMER 2024 Rehearsal
On Wednesday, November 6th, 2024, the F-2 Department, ELME and SVPIS organized the 12th comparative measurements of dose rate and gamma spectrometry PRIMER at the IJS Reactor Center. The purpose of this now traditional exercise is to enable organizations from Slovenia and abroad that use radioactive radiation meters to perform a wide variety of measurements (e.g. in protection against ionizing radiation, research, etc.) to test their knowledge and equipment in various tasks in the field of radioactive source detection, exchange experiences and, by comparing results, upgrade their knowledge and work procedures. The tasks in this exercise included measurements of natural radiation dose rates and dose rates in the vicinity of a stronger Cs-137 source, detection of sources, hidden in barrels, checking the sensitivity of meters to the Am-241 source, gamma spectrometry of various samples (solution, air filter, unknown source) and in-situ gamma spectrometry. The measurements were attended by more than 80 representatives from more than 20 different organizations from Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Austria.
