PhD Student Position at Uppsala University

Uppsala University declares a PhD student position, at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, to be open for application. The PhD-studies will focus on the investigation of the potential risk of radionuclides, specific to the European Spallation Source (ESS), entering the food chain through crops commonly cultivated in the farmlands surrounding the ESS site. The Department of Low and Medium Energy Physics (F2) at the Jožef Stefan Institute, the leading Slovenian scientific research institute, will actively patrticipate as well. An article on Na-ion battery research in the high-impact Carbon journal

A group of researchers from our Department, together with colleagues from the Institute of Chemistry, published an article in the Carbon journal entitled "Structural and chemical analysis of hard carbon negative electrode for Na-ion battery with X-ray Raman scattering and solid-state NMR spectroscopy". Research on Na-ion batteries is crucial in the context of the green transition, as, compared to conventional Li-ion batteries, they have significant advantages such as high energy density, improved safety and lower environmental impact.

The project of our department successful at the JSI tender "RSF 2024"

The project of Dr Mitja Kelemen "Near surface ion-vacancy implanter for quantum systems manufacturing" was selected in strong competition at this year's RSF "Development Pillar of Funding" tender in the "Science" pillar, category "Start", intended for younger researchers for basic and applied projects.

Advanced measurements at the FERMI free electron laser

Doc.Dr Klemen Bučar and Dr Matjaž Žitnik recently took part in experiment dealing with coherent control of molecular fragmentation around an autoionizing state using shaped attosecond pulses. The experiment took place at FERMI FEL, which is one of the world's top sites in the field.
