Activities

Measurements and analysis of Mössbauer spectra:

  • In transmission geometry in solids and frozen liquids samples in temperature range between 4.2K 300K
  • Surface sensitive spectra in scattering geometry on solid and/or powder samples at room temperature at atmosferic pressure in inert gas
  • Surface sensitive spectra n scattering geometry on solid and/or powder samples in temperature between 15 and 300K in ultra high vacuum
  • Low external magnetic field of 270mT

Development of measuring procedures and protocols for various industrial applications

Mössbauer spectroscopy laboratory has been established at Jožef Stefan Institute in 1965, shortly after Rudolf Mössbauer has been awarded Nobel prize in physics in 1961 for the discovery of the resonant recoilles absorbtion of gamma rays.

In our laboratory we use Mössbauer spektroscopy for basic and applied research of materials properties. Most of our research is done on iron containing materials. This is the most investigated isotope usin Mössbauer spectrocopy. We have been successful in applications of in-situ and in-operando measurement techniques, which were applied in studies of battery cathode materials and catalysts.

We have developed a detector for conversion electrons for surface sensitive measurements, which give information abbout hyperfine interactions of iron in depth up to around 100nm and less. Our detector is being used as well in laboratories in Mainz and Budapest. Our laboratory has very good cooperation with laboratories in Slovenia and abroad. The results of the cooperation are aquired national and international research projects.
