Meeting of the ENRAS project expert group

On Thursday, June 4th 2020, the 3rd meeting of the ENRAS project expert group was held. The project is run within the INTERREG V-A Slovenia-Croatia program. Abbreviation ENRAS stands for ENsuring RAdiation Safety, the main goal of the project being education of the intervention workers for safe and coordinated interventions in the cross-border region of Slovenia and Croatia in case of radiological and nuclear accidents. The meeting of the expert groups is one of the most important meetings within the project. The expert group was preparing the program for capacity building from the very beginning, has approved the program and now evaluates it regularly. The participants of the meeting were informed about the realization of the resolutions of the previous meeting of the expert group and they reviewed the activities performed during the 3rd reporting period of the project. All individual trainings of intervention units in Slovenia have been successfully completed whereas some individual trainings in Croatia were shifted to a later period due to the COVID-19 pandemic preventive measures. The same applies to two joint exercises in Slovenia and one joint exercise in Croatia, new dates will be set as soon as the circumstances improve. The expert group also approved the report for the previous period. The permanent cross-border structure which is intended to take care of the maintenance and further development of the competency of intervention workers after completion of the project has been discussed also. Another issue put forward was the implementation of the final exercise which is intended to demonstrate the knowledge gained during the project and would also be attractive for media. The meeting was attended by representatives of Jozef Stefan Institute as the leading partner in the project, the Institute for Medical Research from Zagreb, Slovenian Firefighters Association, Croatian Firefighters Association, Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for civil protection and disaster, Slovenian Nuclear Safety Administration and State Office for Radiological and Nuclear Safety in Croatia.
